History as a qualitative method
November 20 @ 15:00 - 16:30
History and qualitative research have in common that they often deal with rich qualitative materials, in which context plays an important role. Yet historical research is rarely included under the umbrella of ‘qualitative research methods’. In this session, Johannes Westberg will speak about history as a qualitative method, and the ways in which historical studies uses qualitative data, stresses temporality and sequences, and explores contexts. Through his own experience and research in the history of education, the speaker will give examples and insights how such an interest in source criticism, time and contingencies can be of added value to any research project. As always, participants are invited to bring their thoughts, doubts and questions to the session, where the speaker looks forward to engaging with them!
